About me
Hi, my name is Marcelo Clapp.
I am a Brasilian interdisciplinary visual artist based in Portugal.
My creative process and work are both based on the same ethos: letting things go. I understand, I’ve made it and it is ‘mine’, yet still, when ‘consumed’ by others, it gains new existences. Even more alive. And in ways I could’ve never imagined.
I work in multiple mediums: traditional and digital painting and illustration, printmaking, muralism, and drawing. Always influenced by my latino magical realism roots, documenting my perception of the experience of life and others. It’s fast pace, and it’s magic. It’s narrative, and it’s colours.
I draw inspiration from the extremes of my experiences in life. And collide them one onto the other, the deep black shadows and volumes against extremely vibrant colours, in an effort to convey a feeling of restlessness, the everythingness of absence and the nothingness of presence.
Like trying to entrap a memory or grabbing air.
